Before we enter the “it’s the last 90 days of the year” era, there are a few things you should know:
- Starting your fitness journey now, before the new year, to make progress and be “ahead of others” isn’t something that you have to do. The best time to start is when you can be consistent and real with yourself about your goals and outcome you are expecting.
- You don’t have to “work off” or “earn back” the holiday food you will be eating. Practice mindfulness and enjoy yourself. Food is not something you should punish yourself for.
- And on that note: Exercise is not something you should punish yourself with. Choose movement because it feels good, not because you have to burn off the equivalent of Halloween candy, thanksgiving dinner, or all those Christmas cookies.
- Winter can be a hard time of year to find motivation to go to the gym. It’s cold and dark and you probably just want to hibernate. Don’t let this stop you from getting movement in that feels good. Try new things: hot yoga, water aerobics, workout at home – something that allows you to keep active and stay cozy!
- Choose one habit at a time to master. There is nothing better than pursuing a healthier version of yourself. Making one change at a time can eliminate overwhelm. There is so much to work on: from nutrition, to fitness, to mindset and more – don’t over commit yourself! Slow and steady wins the race.
At the end of it all, just remember you don’t have to go from 0 to 60 when it comes to making healthier choices. Small adjustments add up over time. So if you are ready to start now, jump in with what feels the most maintainable. Don’t let “the last 90 days” mindset hold you back from becoming a better version of yourself. Turn it into something that is energizing and inspiring. Let yourself be surprised by just how much you can accomplish. Here’s to the last 90 days!
